About us

Extended human lifespan is internationally recognised as one of the major accomplishments of the modern age. However, the ageing of the population brings significant challenges for the future. Research, across a number of disciplines, will assist in addressing the needs and issues and enhancing the life experience of older people in the Australian community.

Monash Research for an Ageing Society (MonRAS) is an innovative strategy within and across Monash University to facilitate:

a cross-faculty multidisciplinary approach to the study of ageing

that consolidates the focus of research activities and resources of the entire university to the development of service, technologies, therapies, policies and programs that address significant issues and improve quality of life of older people and that attract substantial research investment and partnerships.

The MonRAS initiative aims to achieve:

  • cohesion of research in ageing at Monash, with a particular focus on facilitating and nurturing cross-faculty multidisciplinary research activities.
  • a "pipeline" for ageing-related research that connects university research programs to associated health, social, economic and technological issues in government, industry and community.
  • funding opportunities that support ageing research at Monash.
  • consistent marketing and publicity of ageing research at Monash.

Monash Research for an Ageing Society is operating as a virtual network of researchers led by the director, Professor Colette Browning, and supported by a small secretariat (research fellow and executive officer).
